1 story house in Ballymote F56 X995, Co. Sligo, Ireland

This is a holiday home situated in the picturesque North-West region of Ireland and adjacent to the Wild Atlantic Way.The small city of Sligo is 20 kms away with lots of cultural and leisure activities. The local townof Ballymote is 4 kms away. It is a very historic town in its own right with a castle which was used by Red Hugh O’Donnell as a staging post on his way south to the Battle of Kinsale. It has shops, a café, a couple of pubs and a few takeaways. It also has a hotel, the Coach-House and a children’s playground. A craft beer is brewed in the town as well with an annual beer festival held there every August. Ballymote also stages a Heritage weekend every August with lectures/tours of a historical nature with particular relevance to the local area.
Co. Sligo is also renowned for traditional Irish music. The village of Gurteen is home to the Coleman traditional music centre and is about 15 kms. from the house. The village of Riverstown hosts the James Morrison traditional music festival every August and is situated about 4kms. from the house.
There are good hill walking possibilities nearby, the beaches are a short drive away and there are megalithic tombs in the area as well.
The house is a short drive to the Wild Atlantic Way which weaves along the beautiful west coast of Ireland(refer to website below).
The Sligo Camino is also easily accessible from the property and is 30 Kms. in length. An organised camino walk is held every July.
A climb to the top of Knocknarea, overlooking Sligo Bay, is a very rewarding experience along the recently opened Queen Maeve pathway.
Another easy climb is to the summit of Knocknashee (Cnoc na Síoga) which is about 10kms. from the house. There is much folklore connected with this hill/mountain and it is a walk suitable for children and adults alike.
Children and adults will enjoy a trip to nearby Lough Key forest park and the Zipit experience on the rope walks.
Co. Sligo is associated with the poet W.B. Yeats who reposes at Drumcliffe in the County and in whose honour an international summer school takes place each August in Sligo.
The house is just 45 kms. from Ireland West Knock Airport which is serviced by Ryanair from various U.K. cities and from a number of European cities as well. Aer Lingus also connect Knock airport with London Heathrow on a daily basis. It takes 2 hours to drive to the property from Dublin airport.
The house is very spacious with a very large and secure garden which is very suitable for children. There are lots of quiet rural roads in the area for walking enthusiasts.
Galway city is about 100kms to the south and Co. Donegal is easily accessible from the house as well.
We are interested in exchanges not only during summer but also at Easter and indeed at any other times of the year as well as we are both retired. A non-simultaneous exchange is also possible and we are also open to renting the house if preferred.
We have been on many enjoyable exchanges to most countries in Western Europe over the past 20 years and also on one occasion to California. We can assure you that we will take great care of your house and car should you decide to exchange with us. We will consider all offers not just the countries that we have listed here.
