Gran Canaria: Spanish volcanic island near the coast of Africa

Gran Canaria is like a circle of 45 kilometres in diameter with mountains 2.000 meters high. From the coast to the mountains -only 20 km, but with zigzagging roads- you will find different climates and landscapes, from the sunny sandy beaches of the south to the rocky coast of the north or the high mountains and woods in the centre. This is why the island is known as a “Continent in miniature”.

THE CLIMATE:
As the clouds come usually from the northeast -like the trade winds- they stop when they reach the high mountains and leak water in the woods; that is why the northeast side is greener and the southwest drier, with the best calm sandy beaches.
The climate in Gran Canaria is mild and pleasant all year round in the coast, even in winter, when we use to go to the beach every week. The summer in the Island is also mild thanks to the sea breezes, with temperatures around 25 degrees. If you want to feel the cold in the mountains, some winters we have a little bit of snow.

TOURIST INFORMATION:
In the official tourist website of the island you can get any information that you may need to enjoy your stay: https://www.grancanaria.com/turismo/en/
There are seven golf courses in the island, one of them (Bandama) the oldest in Spain, and marinas and fishing ports around the entire island. You can also make some short drives to visit the old towns of Agüimes, Ingenio, Arucas, Guía, Galdar, Agaete… It is a must to visit some of our beautiful “Barrancos” like Ayagaures, Los Palmitos (Palmitos Park at the end), Fataga (beautiful village), Guayadeque (restaurants in caves), Valle de Agaete.

LAS PALMAS:
In Las Palmas, capital of the island, founded by the Spanish in the fifteenth century, you can visit the old town and the pedestrian streets of Vegueta and Triana. In the opposite side of the town you can enjoy the beach of Las Canteras, considered by many international tourist magazines as one of the best urban beaches of the world.

BAHÍA FELIZ:
Bahía Feliz is a small tourist and residential area with a relaxed atmosphere and 2 small beaches. There are 3 hotels, a shopping centre, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, spa centre, tennis and paddle courts, gym, nautical school, apartments, private houses...
We offer an apartment in a condominium with residents and tourists, just beside the sea promenade, with two swimming pools, bar, restaurant, gardens, children's park, supermarket... There is a double bedroom (150cm wide bed) for two persons and in the living-room a sofa that turns into a bed (110cm wide). Under the mattress you can find a folding bed, just in the case that there is a fourth person. We have a very nice terrace where you can enjoy your meals looking to the garden, with different kind of trees.

BEACHES:
The 2 small beaches in Bahía Feliz are much longer with the low tide. Some years we have more sand and some years stones, because of the winds and the sea.
The sandy beach Playa del Aguila is only 8 minutes walking.
San Agustín is a wonderful sandy beach just 2 kilometres from our apartment.
The very famous Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, with sand dunes, are just 10-15 minutes drive.
If the day is windy or cloudy, we recommend you to go to the beach of Patalavaca (20minutes drive), in the west coast, where the weather is always calm and sunny.
There are many more beaches in the south of the island and in the rocky coast of the north that you can explore.

SHORT FLIGHTS:
From Gran Canaria there are direct flights to the other 6 islands of our archipelago, just 30-40 minutes.
We also have direct flights to Morocco (Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir…), Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Madeira, Cape Verde…
