Islip is a historic village on the River Ray, just above its confluence with the River Cherwell in Oxfordshire, England. It is about 2 miles east of Kidlington and about 5 miles north of Oxford. The Domesday Book of 1086 recorded a watermill at Islip. A mill survived in the village until 1949, when it was demolished. The village is famous for its royal connections. Edward the Confessor, Anglo-Saxon English king and saint (1042-1066) was born in Islip and tradition holds that he was baptised in St Nicholas church here.The Old Fox dates back to 1723 when it was a coaching house called the Old Fox and Grapes.
The village has a community shop and a village hall. There is feted restaurant The Old Swan and also a pub The Red Lion which is currently awaiting new management. There are beautiful country walks all around. It takes 1 hour to walk across the fields to Oxford city. There is train station with regular trains to Oxford and Lindon Marylebone. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 652.
