A very nice town house in Reykjavík.

Our home is a cozy 2 story house, with 4 bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms have big beds, so it's easy to accommodate 6 persons. On the first floor there is a nice kitchen, living room and tv, along with one of the bedrooms and a small wc. On the second floor we have 3 spacious bedrooms and a very spacious and nice bathroom with a big bath tub and shower. Accessible from the second floor is a terrace with a jacuzzi. There is a garden surrounding the house, with 2 patios.

Our beautiful family house is in a very nice and quiet neighborhood with 10-15 min drive to downtown Reykjavík. Grocery shopping’s are in a walking distance and it’s a short drive to a very nice swimming pool with a waterslide and hot tubs. The house is in a short distance from the coast and there are many walking paths in the aria, wild seals are in 2 km. distance from the house.

Our Neighbourhood

The area:

Spöngin is in a 5 min walk from the house. There you can find two grocery shops, Bónus is cheapest and Hagkaup has more selection. There is also Vínbúðin where you can by alcohol, in Iceland all alcohol is sold in a special store. There are also a restaurants, library, bakery and other things.

Egilshöll is also in a walking distances, there you will find a cinema, fitness station, bowling and a restaurant.

We live in a quiet neighborhood with 10-15 min drive to downtown Reykjavík. There is a Bus station close to the house if you choose to use them.

Iceland has a lot of swimming pools. I recommend you try out different pools, for examples these tree how all have water slides and nice hot tubs:
Grafarvogslaug, Dalhúsum 2, 112 Reykjavík
Laugardalslaug, Sundlaugavegi 30, 105 Reykjavík
Lágafellslaug, Lækjahlíð 1a, 270 Mosfellsbæ

Our house is in a short distance from the coast and there are many walking paths in the area. In the mornings when there is a low tide you can often see seals in the ocean about 1,5-2 km from the house. You walk down from the house to the coast and turn right, walk on until you come to the golf course then you turn left. After that you walk a bit further but take a good look if there are some seals down by the ocean.

Gufunesbær is a fun plays in 10-15 min walking distant where you can barbecue, play beach volleyball, Frisbee golf and walk around the area and in a very big playground castle.

There are too nice golf courses close to the house Golfklúbbur Reykjavíkur has both of them, “Korpa course” is closer to us but the “Grafarholt course” is close to. http://www.grgolf.is/english/courses/

We have a lot of Museums but I will point out three of them. Árbæjarsafnið tries to give a sense of the architecture and way of life and lifestyles of the past in Reykjavík: http://borgarsogusafn.is/en/arbaer-open-air-museum. Landnámssýningin, the Settlement Exhibition http://www.reykjavik871.is/ and Þjóðminnjasafnið, National Museum of Iceland http://www.thjodminjasafn.is/

Nauthólsvík is our beach here in Reykjavík. Use of the beach, hot tub, changing rooms and toilets is for free. http://nautholsvik.is/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-715/.

If you want to walk a bit higher we have Esjan and Úlfarsfell close to Reykjavík. Both of them are very popular. Úlfarsfell is lower but Esjan has better marked trails up to the top.

Húsdýragarðurinn is a small Park and Zoo in Reykjavík, there you can see Icelandic domestic animals, reindeers, harbor seals and arctic foxes. They also have a small exhibition of foreign reptiles and rides for the children. http://mu.is/.

Þingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir, the golden circle, is the most famous sightseeing tour in Iceland. Þingvellir is a National Park where the forces of the Great Atlantic Rift are clearly visible, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are drifting apart. Gullfoss has a spectacular vertical drop of more than 32 meters cascading down into the canyon of the Hvítá River. Geysir is a famous thermal area where Strokkur is shooting a column of boiling water up to a height of up to 30 meters.

Blue Lagoon is something everybody that comes to Iceland has to visit :-) http://www.bluelagoon.com/

Snæfellsnesið is a beautiful place that I recommend you see but it is a good drive to get there. There you have Arnarstapi that is amazing to walk around and you can by a trip up on the glacier Snæfellsjökull. You can go in the cave, Vatnshellir, with a guide. The cave is about 200 meters long and 35 meters under the surface. Then there is Djúpalónsandur, a wonderful beach with black stones. You can walk on Eldborg and go to Ölkelda a farm where you have the possibility to taste the mineral water directly from the earth. In the farm Lýsuhóll you can try Icelandic horses or quadbike.
