As we're both retired we're open to any offers from anywhere in Ireland ! We're happy to exchange for short breaks if this suits and would be happy to exchange at short notice. |
House in Waterford, Ireland.
Our home is in a quiet estate on the outskirts of Waterford. We extended our home in 2000 and we now have 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with all amenities. We have a side entrance with a sunny back garden. We've done quite a bit of renovation in the last two years and we have just completed renovating our garden which now includes a wood-burning, pizza oven. Let the sun shine!

By European standards Waterford is a small city with a population of 50,000. It was originally a Viking settlement built on the banks of the river Suir. The city centre is compact and ideal for strolling around with some lovely cafés and traditional pubs.
Waterford is famous for its Lead Crystal Glass. Unfortunately, the factory closed down in late 2009. But a brand new factory, situated in the centre of the city, opened in June 2010 and is a great place to visit. At our city centre is an area called The Viking Triangle. This is the site of the original Viking settlement. It is a great area to visit with new museums, art gallery, street sculptures and much more.
Waterford has a beautiful unspoiled coastline with a mixture of rugged cliffs and sandy beaches. Tramore (which literally means "big beach" in Irish) is 10km from here and is a great attraction for all the family and has a great Surfing school!. But if you prefer quieter beaches you can drive further along the coast and probably find a sandy cove all to yourself.
The Comeragh mountains are just 20 minutes from here and while they may not be very high they are impressive as they sweep down almost to the sea.
The Greenway opened in March 2017 and is a fantastic addition for tourism in Waterford. The Greenway is a cycling and walking route that runs along the disused railway track that ran between Waterford and Dungarvan. (http://visitwaterfordgreenway.com/) The 45km route has been completely revamped and it is stunning. We have 2 bicycles so off you go!
The Waterford Walls Festival takes place every summer where large wall spaces are painted by international artists adding a great splash of colour to our city.
Also, in early August there is a fantastic street festival here in Waterford called SPRAOI (pronounced SPREEE!) Check it out in spraoi.com Its a free festival and great for kids from 3 to 83!!
There are many lovely day trips, Kilkenny City, the ancient Hook Lighthouse, the Saltee Islands etc and we have maps and plans for all these when you arrive.

About Our Family
We are a family of five: parents Micheál ( Retired Teacher) and Trish (Artist) with daughters Fiona and Orla and son Micheál. Our family is grown up and moved out so we will be travelling on our own.. or maybe one or more will want to enjoy the exchange. We have three grandchildren. We have exchanged ten times (France 4, Austria 1, Iceland 1, Italy 1, Belgium 1 and Ireland 4) and we have really enjoyed all of them.
Lifestyle
Our children are now living away from home and both of us are now retired. We love going on walks in the local mountains and beaches which are only a few minutes drive from our home. We also love to cycle on the new Waterford Greenway and on the Clonmel Blueway, two wonderful roadways for cyclists and walkers. In my spare time I'm a member of The Déise Men's Shed, the Waterford Male Voice Choir and a beekeeper. Trish is a member of Voici ( a female choir) and, now that she is retired, is back working as an artist.
