A nice house in center Belgium, close from France, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands
Want to discover the Belgian beers , chocolate, our castels, Belgian language (cougnou , cramique, craquelin, etc.)? Our house is centrally located in Belgium. For one day, you can discover Paris, Amsterdam, Delft, la baie de Somme (France), Amiens, see ... and we have direct access to the Brussels National airport by rail.
Our house is a lovely country house in the middle of the crops that we carefully restored. Whereas it still looks XVIII century from outside, inside offers full modern comfort: a fully-equipped kitchen, a cosy living room with open fire, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, all with central heating. We also have a large garden, where you can have dinner under the sun, and where children will enjoy the swing and the trampoline. You will enjoy walking or biking our gently hilly countryside (we have bikes for every age). Florence is an official guide of the city of Soignies. She is working out some discovery routes in our area that you will enjoy.
We live near the blue stone quarries ( it is possible to visit ) but we do not hear any noise.
Soignies is a pretty city, 5 kms from our house. You will discover our almost 1000-yr old church, nice small streets and also some views on our bluestone quarry. Soignies offers all needed stores and department stores, and also some artisanal chocolate producers. From Soignies station and its free parking, you will reach Brussels, heart of Europe, by train in less than half an hour.
Our house is also 20 minutes driving from Mons, European Capital of Culture 2015, with many exhibitions and events. Mons offers a beautiful city centre, with its medieval town hall, its typical main square where you will enjoy typical Belgian beers at the pubs “terrasse”, and its gothic Collegiate Church. Mons was last year at the heart of the First World War commemorations, with the “first shot” point at 5 kms for our house (remember also the “Angels of Mons”).
Close from our house, you will find many UNESCO World Heritage list sites: the Belfry of Mons (20 min driving), the coalmines of Bois-du-Luc (20 min), the historical “Canal du Centre” with its four one-century old boatlifts still in operation (20 min), the prehistoric Silex mines at Spiennes (30 min), the gothic church of Tournai (1 h), ... Other sites of interest in the surrounding are Waterloo Battlefield (45 min), historic “Notre-Dame de la Rose” hospital at Lessines (30 min), the city of Namur (1 h), the museum and the park of Mariemont (25 min), etc.
Children will also enjoy Pairi Daiza zoo with its two Pandabears (20 min), boat tours along the 73-m high Strépy boat lift (20 min), the “PASS” scientific park (35 min), or four nice public swimming pools, ...

GB092216We had a great week's exchange in this lovely rural house. We loved being surrounded by fields, the peace and quiet and the large garden with views across the field. Many lovely towns were within easy reach. Florence and Didier have a very comfortable home and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend an exchange with them.
